Kindergarten Registration & Enrollment

REGISTRATION SCHEDULE - beginning March 2, 2020

Welcome to Goodrich Area Schools and a special welcome to Reid Elementary. We are looking forward to meeting you and your child. The educational focus at Reid Elementary is child-centered for grades Developmental Kindergarten (DK) through First. It is our plan to provide your child with a rich, educational experience in a nurturing environment.

Kindergarten students must be five by September 1, 2020. If you feel your child is ready for school, but they turn five between September 2 and December 1, 2020, they may still be eligible for Kindergarten. Please see the document "Intent to Enroll" located at the bottom of this web page for additional information.

Goodrich Area Schools now uses an on-line registration (OLR) process which opens March 2, 2020. To enroll your student you must complete the 2020-2021 on-line registration process for a new student - see link located at the bottom of this page.

After completing the on-line registration, you must follow these important steps before your child is accepted for enrollment. You are encouraged to complete this process by April 1.

  1. Michigan law requires the following documents for registering your child for school. You must bring original documents to the school for copying or upload them during the OLR process where available.
    1. Official Birth Certificate - you must bring original to the office
    2. Three proofs of residency - one of which must show the school district in which you pay taxes.OR
    3. School of Choice approval letter (if applicable). Applications are submitted to the Board of Education during their open enrollment window. Please see the School of Choice tab on the District home page for information. On-line registrations of students not within Goodrich Area School District boundaries will not be accepted without School of Choice approval letter.
    4. Any custodial/legal papers pertinent to your child.
    5. Written verification of Immunizations or approved County Waiver. Immunizations and approved County Waiver must be completed prior to the second week of school or your student will not be permitted to attend.
    6. Health appraisal: due by the second week of school.
    7. Vision screening: due by the second week of school.
  2. The following forms will need to be downloaded (see PDFs located below), printed, and uploaded during the OLR process or brought to the school with the above mentioned documents:
    1. Records release form
    2. Kindergarten Questionnaire
    3. IEP and/or 504 documents - Only if your student has an active IEP/504
    4. Developmental Kindergarten (DK) parent input - ONLY IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THE DK PROGRAM

If you do not have access to a computer, you may contact the office to schedule a time to use a school computer. If you do not have access to a printer, hard copies of the necessary forms will also be available in the office.

All current 4 yr old Children Center preschoolers are loaded into our database system. Because your children are already in the system, you will enroll your child into Kindergarten through your ParentVue Account. If you do not have a ParentVue account, please contact the Reid office for an activation code.   Please do not enroll your Children Center preschooler as a "new" student; this will lead to duplicate enrollments.

Students who will be School of Choice, must have obtained their approval letter from the Goodrich District office before the Online Registration will be accepted. School of Choice applications are available starting _________. Please check with the Goodrich Area Schools District Office for the exact application window.

KINDERGARTEN ROUND UP - APRIL 29: for registered students only.
Once you have registered and the appropriate documents have been delivered to the office, you will be given instructions on how to register your student for Kindergarten Round Up. At Kindergarten Round Up, students will be assessed and those students who qualify for Developmental Kindergarten will be notified and encouraged to enroll in that program. Qualifications will be based on student birth date, round up assessments, preschool input (if applicable) and parent input.

Again, please call 810-591-3455 if you have any questions.

Thank you and we look forward to welcoming you into our Reid family,
Reid Elementary
